The Prestige

'The Prestige' is this (English) Drama, Sci-Fi & Thriller movie combination. As usual dad brings these director specials, specifically movies not released in India. When dad told its a mix of the above said I was thinking whether to watch it or not. Being a Sunday and no work to do, I thought I would watch it. I had no other ways to fight my boredom.

Prelude:

The movie is about friendship that became rivalry, a rivalry that became a battle.... All this for the cause of magic and illusion.

And the movie....

The movie started of with an old gentleman showing magic to this little girl. He says "There are 3 parts to Every Magic Trick ... 1) The Pledge, 2) The Turn, and 3) The Prestige!"...... He does all the magic and brings out this bird from no where.... and says "are you watching closely baby?"

Well, the movie MUST b watched closely to understand the tricks and more tricks that you would least expect in the end.

The movie is about two close friends, Angier(Hugh Jackman) a charismatic showman and Alfred Borden(Christian Bale), gifted illusionist who work under a magician Cutter(Michael Caine). During one of their shows Angier wife dies in a performance unexpectedly because the magic went wrong. Angier puts the blame on Borden cos he didn't tie the knot properly, which he was supposed to, that will save the magic!

After that, Borden moves away and performs his magic in the London. They both are obsessed with bringing out the best stage illusion. Angier tries to crack Borden secrets and Borden on the other hand tries not to tell the secret at any cost!! Angier is always seemed obsessed with Borden's performances which he thinks is brilliant but simple. He sends his assistant Olivia(Scarlett Johnasson) to work for him and to find out his secrets. Borden appoints her and knows the truth as well. Olivia tells the truth after seeing Borden's work. She falls in love with him in spite of knowing Borden is married to Sarah(Rebecca Hall). These two women plays an important role in the film along with two men Fallow and Cutter.

In one of Borden's show of ' The Transported Man' where the magician comes on the other side of the door immediately, without falling down quizzes Angier how he did that. Without the possible routes, how he did that 'real thingy' and not magic being involved.

He goes to all the famous magicians in the country and ends up in to this man to find out Borden's illusion. He buys this 'magnifying transmitter' from a magician named Tesla who duplicated the device after the rivalry with Thomas Edison (Yes, the movie being shot at that early time!)

Borden on the other hand acts as this 'super villain' role where he believes that 'My magic is original, and I won't let it known to others even at the cost of his closest'! The tricks done by Borden and his attempts to destroy Angier's magic is thrilling to watch.

As their rivalry becomes an obsession of deceit, they risk everything to become a great magician of all times. What happens in the end brings the movie to the end!

The climax is unusual, un-expected and super!! I am in loss of words. You just can't imagine that 'such' a thing would have happened. I just wished to have the brains of the director!Amazing...!!

The movie starts with showing Borden in jail. And the end shows the same with an unexpected turn in it.

Now I know why Cutter says in the beginning, 'are you watching closely'?

Cast:
  • Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier: An aristocratic magician with a talent for performance
  • Christian Bale as Alfred Borden: A working-class magician with an understanding of magic
  • Michael Caine as Harry "John" Cutter: The stage engineer who works for Angier
  • Rebecca Hall as Sarah Borden: Borden's wife
  • Scarlett Johnasson as Olivia Wenscombe: Angier's assistant
  • David as Tesla: The real life inventor who creates a device for Angier
Epilogue:

The movie is based on a book written by Christopher Nolan who is also the director of the film. He is best known for three movies Memento (Our very own tamil film Ghajini!), Batman series and The Prestige! The movie was released in 2006(not released in India!!) and was nominated for two Oscars and won several other awards. I think everyone must watch it for the suspense and thrill that the movie creates. You just can't surely miss it! Though its a slight drama, as and when the movie goes am sure one would love to see what happens in the end. I swear I have not seen such a movie in my life time though I repeat the same when I see a director's special move!!But this is extra-ordinary! The actors are JUST BRILLIANT and have no words to appreciate them. Though there are only some 5 main roles, they have done a great job and the movie is FANTASTIC. I recommend all the readers of this blog to watch it!

Chennai automen - Most irritating people in the world!!

I've got sick of these Chennai auto - men! They are the 'real criminals' in the whole world. In fact we all encourage them by giving them money. [being criminal no2 ourselves]

Incident no 1:

> After the meter rule, i took an auto in Kodambakkam. From there to Mylapore, he asked me 80 bucks!! I asked to put meter, as they have imposed the rule. His reply,

"Government rule vepan, vekamaatan... ada po ma... ellaruma meter vachikuta irruganga"

I felt like dragging him to the police station... I kept on bargaining, he came down from 80 to 70. I left, and try looking for another auto. Then he came for 60. Due to personal reasons had to take that B****Y AUTO!!

Incident No 2:

> From Alwarpet to Mylapore, Rs. 50 bucks.

I asked him, what nonsense...its too much,

His reply,

" Petrol velai eriruchu ma, idhu correct aana vela" [am supposed to say that a*****e]

It's was raining, I was still waiting for an auto who asks for the correct Rupees!

After much arguments with this auto who came next, I went for 25!

What the B****y?

It's really a 'sad' issue! From the day 1 in my 'chennai' life I've never seen a guy put on the meter. They commit a crime without any fear of government.

In fact in Bangalore, Hyderabad and all they put meter and follow a proper system... Here only they fuss for everything! From switching on the meter to wearing helmets, they don't stick to any rule properly! They will say the 'rule is on' and the next day 'rule is off'!! For the auto issue it's still worse! It came in the end of the page 'a two column importance'!

Sometimes I feel, our government should act like a 'Head-Mistress'....being very strict and putting things in order..! But am sure this can all be 'only' a dream! Who is sincere and dedicated in this world to expect the government to be?! It happens even in the class for a project?!How many of them work sincerely?

After a all, in a class project people will work in the ration of 2:4 or 2:5!! How can I even expect government to act like that! When i was reading constitution paper this semester, my friends n I even planned to file a case against this! And you know, it all ended up only in discussion!!

A 'change' in this to come to pass.... I dunno how many years it will take...! Lets see...

*sUrViVinG mE* Sharu

Post script: I wish all the people who read this blog, fight against this & help make a change... Thank you:-)

Blore Boulevard - the broken beauty:-(

Well, Well, am gonna write about something I really loved. I mean the word L.O.V.E.D.

The most beautiful place in Blore [If you'd ask me, I would say the most beautiful place I love to be!] With trees on the side, benches to have romantic talks, for the old man to view the other side of the city, a dream of a girl to join Times of India which is right opposite to where she's seated[You can take a guess!!] .....

Haven't you guessed yet?

*Mg Road Boulevard in Bangalore*

The boulevard is gonna be no more.. They have already started demolishing it. During my internship the issue of demolishing it came up. After 5 years of metro rail project talks in blore, they are gonna start their work! That too in the place of the beautiful boulevard!

Myself and another reporter when to do vox-pop[Voice your views].I saw so many people having myriad memories of that place. Am sure the people there would miss. But its really sad[pathetic!] to see the tress being cut down, the road being emptied and on. I felt like 'gawd, they are killing it, killing it in front of me'.

One might think what is so special in that place? The answer - it feels heaven! I remember going to that place often when I was a kid. My dad lowes Mg road, he often takes me and my sister for a walk there. I didn't realize the beauty then.

Later when I grew up, again the three of us went. My dad always had something nice to say when we walk there. We used to sit in those benches, look at the traffic, other happenings and chat about his nostalgic memories with his friends there.

It feels so good you know. The place is very old and been in Bangalore for ages. I heard so the British wanted to put up the lane on the other side of Mg road. It's a landmark for Bangalore. Mg road being one of the busiest and happening place in the city, this place is noticed so much. With busy traffic in one side, other side a beautiful lane of trees and benches on the side! Can you imagine a place like that now?

When it rains you have place for shelter, when it's too hot also its the same. Sweet talks, old memories, a walk from there to cubbon park.... Gawd am gonna miss it so much. Am sure my dad will miss so much more than I.

The St. George Cathedral in Nungambakkam, Madras gives me peace. It's the same for me in Bangalore. This place gives me peace, it's not that I don't have in home or elsewhere. I can see peace, feel it in the midst of so much traffic and noise, it makes me feel so good like how an early morning walk in the beach is!

I used to dream sitting in that place, thinking may be few years from now, I should meet my Mr. Right and spend some time [BG-ne amridhadhare song], then after a few years bring my friends to spend some nice time, and then with my family and on. It might sound stupid, kiddish or even dramatic! But that's not all it is, its the way nature & beauty makes me feel!:-)

Though people say, after the construction they will planting trees and re-constructing it again. But that's all gonna be after 5 years from now! I dunno where I will be, I dunno if the old charm can be brought again!

All I have with me now is the *memories*memories*memories*!

I dream now---It will be back one day:)

My days in 29C

My days in 29C is amazing!!! 29C is this bus-route that travels from Besant Nagar to Perambur. I take from Mylapore to Gemini. In my first and second year I travel in bus. Now am slightly missing the fun in bus!! But still I have those lovely memories traveling in 29C. With great people around me, I always loved it that way. The fun times, the gossip[lol], the enjoyment .... woooo I loved it... Here I pen down,,... why I love traveling in 29C!

  • Waiting in the bus stand and see the crowded 29Cs pass by
  • Sometimes I see guys on top of the bus!
  • Then wait for the Gali bus to arrive
  • Show tata to other friends in the bus stand
  • Fighting for the window seat
  • Sometimes over lowes agi, asking friends to sit in the free seat
  • Esp dhiv, so cheet she will ask others first and then sit, if she gets one:)
  • But sometimes over discussions agi, someone will occupy by that time:D
  • Then.. Gossip **;)
  • Making fun of other people
  • The idushals and ishals;)
  • The vetti talks by sar, pri, dhiv and me
  • Sometimes panda also joins;)
  • The model who traveled with us [oh yea...he participated in Mr.Chennai!!]
  • How we used to fight... seeing him;) [hope he doesn't read this!!]
  • Vetti scene 2 by listening to music[ipod!!].... me and pri oly!!sar n dhiv exceptional!

  • Nice talks with other department girls
  • The serious times - during exams, serious mugging up in the bus!
  • Lovely morning sleep near the window seat, I see sar sleeping most of the time!!
  • Sometimes watch huge fights happening in the bus!
  • Then I pray to god, that the driver shouldn't ask us to get down, as it might get late to college!
  • Seeing cheap men, hitting a woman
  • I also see some nice men helping women and old people
  • Am still searching the lady who flicked my mobile
  • I realize then, How much I've cursed her after the bad happenings!!
  • Is she alive??;)
  • Remembering those 'brave' moments done by my friend!;)
  • Laughing over 'somethings' quietly
  • In the end, showing TATA to my friends after I get down, I will wave till I can see them n vice versa! I dunno why, sar also have told me, I love to show tata, with nice big smile!!:)
Lovely times!! I miss it in my final year!! Maybe I should use it now and then to have fun with my friends... I know I won't get it back again...:(

This is why I love me:)

Yes, am in love with myself for this:):)

I luv photography:) N these pics r very special for me:):)

Emotions of a driver!

6.15 am, She wakes up..

7.30 am, she takes her scooty from the shed..

7.32 am, she starts for her college...

It will take 20 min to reach to her college...

And she drives slowly and always keeps this in mind "Keep to your left"

Near Mylapore signal, tension arises for this poor girl...

Rickshaw men drives slowly in the middle of the road,

Cyclists tries to over take her and other four wheeler drivers,

Auto men tries not to put the INDICATOR when they move left or right,

She thinks, what is the purpose of the 'indicator'?

Four wheeler drivers never puts down their ego, and never follows two wheelers even during times of traffic congestion,

Four wheeler drivers always wants to over take them,

Apparently she guesses, its because its below their dignity to follow a two wheeler!!

Nearing Cathedral road, she finds these POKIRI guys, who goes zig - zag zoo in the roads,

trying to show their driving or zig zooing skills!

She thinks its because of a series of women's college in the same lane!

Nearing Gemini flyover, she finds college girls, flying their dupattas and driving impatiently to avoid signal,

She also finds the same with office goers especially four wheeler drivers who never wants to wait during signals,

She thinks, how can they expect to keep the cars moving in a cosmopolitan city like MADRAS?

She gets reminded of Bangalore traffic, where its much worse!

She thanks GOD at that moment!

She lost her patience completely with the non-supportive members of the road!

She feels like, "should have I gone in bus today, instead of taking my bike?"

She answers to herself, "No no am not gonna get harassed today!!" [LOL]

She looks at the people reading this blog, and thinking whether they guessed who 'she' was?

And yes, your right, its ME! :D

INJUSTICE BEFORE MY EYES

The poem below, is one of my favorites until now. There may be errors but the time when I wrote this didn't have experience. I haven't modified until now and kept the charm of the poem how I wrote.

I remember writing this poem in my 8th grade, in my Biology lab class (*times in rosary*), where I was waiting for my turn to see something through the microscope!

The topic, would make you people realize that am sounding like this activist or something.. lol.. But its not, the poem is purely imaginary and its not written to hurt anyone's feelings.

And one more happy thing about this poem is that I have posted this in a journalism website and if you google my name or topic you can read the poem there also:):)

Have a look...

Injustice before my eyes

Oh, what a pity!
For that man,
He's dying out of suffering
"Pain, Pain",he cried
He is whipped for a
wrong judgment!
He was dragged to the king,
His family was left alone,
People were standing around
his wife and children,
Nobody gave them a helping hand!
She went away weeping,
crying, she left her soul behind...
I was badly ashamed!
"It was a sin", I said to myself!
This thought made me think,
How bad I was,
For I was a judge who got a bribe!
As I think back why,
Why did I do such a sin?
For I didn't have anything to win!!

To see is also a sin....

Well, am back again to write something about that really amazed me during my internship in Bangalore, in ANI (Asian News International)

Back ground information:
Ours is a Broadcast news agency. This year for the journalism students, we are suppose to do it in broadcast media so that the students have a hang of all medias and see how each works differently. last year I did it in Print, so i already have a hang of that! So this time, after much searching and praying I got through this organisation. I did many stories for them and saw how stories are done in different manner. In the first few weeks I was asked to accompany my reporter and see how stories are being done. One story really struck my mind and made me unforgettable as it was such an awesome attempt! It really amazed me!

And now the story....
Our reporter, cameraman and me went to Max-Muller Bhavan in CMH road, Blore to cover an exhibition by Blank Noise.

Blank noise is a volunteer-led, public and participatory arts project that addresses street sexual harassment or in simple terms - E.V.E Teasing!

This time they came out with an exhibition containing clothes of women worn during sexual harassment, pictures of women being harassed, videos of harassed woman, audios of discussions of sexual harassment and interestingly a mock video of a news reader, how she reads the news of eve-teasing cases and how a man comes and harasses her!

I think the exhibition was mind blowing with the background noises of women and the mood of the room!

Apart form the exhibition display, if you look at what they call eve - teasing is;
  • Staring
  • Rubbing in the crowd
  • Passing comments
  • Touching
  • Making lewd gestures
  • Whistling
  • Pinching
And on...

Well, women can even sue or taken legal action against them if the opposite sex does any of the above.

Section 354 says,
Whoever assaults or uses criminal forces to any women intending to outrage or knowing it be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extent to two years or with fine or with both.

If a guy even stares at you for more than minute in a cheesy way, then almost every other guy will be in jail!

But how many has the guts to stand up is my question?

How many has the courage to slap a guy if he harasses, or does any of the above?

How many has the courage to walk to the police station to lodge a complaint against the man?

All this while we have been either a silent victim and a mute spectator! It is not been noticed as a C.R.I.M.E as it has been granted normality due to its sheer daily occurrence.

Every woman in a way has been sexual harassed. Either in a bus (which is the most-common), or while walking in a street or any way!

Some people argue that it is due to the some urban women who dress half - naked and they are the cause for these eve-teasing! Thats definitely true in a way.

But men cant escape by singing the same old story. If you look at the ratio, more of rural or innocent women or girls who wear proper clothings also gets harassed.

I sometimes wonder whether these sicken men do these kind of heroism - look - alike things to girls who look innocent.

I once saw an old man doing cheesy stuff to this small school girl, my friends who were with me in the bus did see, but no one had the GUTS to stand up and slap that guy. I felt really ashamed of myself that day. I felt am a total loser who didn't have basic guts to stand up for that girl, I thought then "How will I be a journalist then?"

I remember this incident which happened to my friend while we were traveling in the bus. She was wrongly accused by a drunker who kept on telling that the other guy harassed her. But the truth was no one harmed us and he was wrongly accusing that poor man. As the fight continued to get louder we then knew they were actually talking about us! My lovely friend (whom I appreciate her for her GUTS in everything) stood up and shouted at him saying if anyone has harmed us, we know better than others.

Yes, that ******* drunker was thrown out of the bus. If she had not openly said that, he would be harassing or insulting us in way. Thanks to my friend who did that with so much of courage! *appreciations*

If every woman stands up for her rights like her, there will be NO MORE of this torture and we can move around freely with all eyes on something else and not on every other guy, who keeps staring us.

I somehow think, this will be a dream.....

Or I should start praying for some ANNIYAN to arrive to do away with these people....

*surviving me*

Cricket, a sport or game for money?

Blogging after a long time i guess.......

So lazy, so boring, so busy..... 3 good reasons enough to explain why I wasn't blogging:)

Lemme kick of with what I wanted to say....

Cricket...... Am sure the sport is worshiped more than being seen as a game.... We can see people doing crazy things for those cricketers....

And one of ma dad's frd, did something called.... Cricket ganesha! But this time it was utter failure.

They made a fool of themselves! All media attention on them.... including the ADS, n they come without the cup, without even reaching the next level....

How amazing it is, apparently this is their first worst walk out from the world cup! The worst part in the INDIAN cricket team is sachin!

phew i hate him..., I think he is an over rated batsmen... There are so many other good players they could have taken this time chucking him. As he had a bad record for the past few years.

Injustice! They treat saurav, sewag, kaif in a different way when they are not performing, but sachin they hardly even talk about his bad performance....

He has got 0... no he has got nothing against Sri Lanka, why don't people make fuss about this?

He was playing well, but now its the other way round... I strongly feel he should retire!

And its so not fair blaming only Rahul Dravid, making him as the skape - goat. The team should be answerable for their entire BAD performance out there in Windies.

Sometimes I wonder what the media was doing? Sleeping?

Why didn't they ask any questions regarding the team when they left to the Windies? They didn't ask any questions, didn't give any importance of how the team is going to perform, what are the steps being taken and on on....

And now they wait for the Indian team to answer their questions! How will they? After being embarrassed so much, how will they even open their mouths?

I did my Broadcast internship in Bangalore, in ANI. I was asked to go for this press conference where Kapil Dev was heading it. He had come to inaugurate the NCA for the year 2007. After the inauguration is over he said he wont answer anything regarding the Indian team or world cup 2007!

Still we managed to wait for him for almost two hours to come out of his room, and then he says I wont answer anything regarding that. But he told just one statement, good to use for our script!

Well, its not his duty to answer it, when the team itself is not ready to answer.

However, they have 'proved' their powers to the Bangladesh team, winning both the tests and the one - day trophy.

But still, the real challenge is when they play with un-beatable teams like Kiwis, Lankans, Australians and on..

Now they are gonna play against the Ireland, where they lost against them(also) in the world cup.... We will see how seriously they take up the matches from now on..

Until then, I sign off!

New beginning!

This is ma first post this year!

2007.... Sharanya CR blogging! [ Guess thats what I meant in the above line:D]

Can you see a person who gives mokkai to themselves?? Well, Don't break your head too much, thats me!:D

Lemme get to the topic!

2007 has come.... 2006 has gone. I have loads of fond memories of last year to cherish! I also have the other one too! My college life last year was fantastic! Guess only from 2006 I've started liking college and my class! Thats because it's ma second year! I became close with many people... gotto know them more and yea freaked!

Then I had ma photography classes ma previous semester ... [Guess i blew the trumpet already in one of ma blogs!] I loved 'em like hElL!! And yea it was also a time of bad memories which kept haunting me, aishu and sar![Note aishu:-HAUNTING:D guess u got it!]

Loads n loads of good things happened in 2006! It ain't a bad year at all! I miss it!

This year kicked off with great things! I thought I would have the most saddest birthday as someone is not there to celeb this year along with me! But then loads n loads n loads of surprises [Hey sar n ice am not meaning wat u guys did to me:D I know I will be kicked for that!] , gud things happened to me! OH I lOvE it! Unexpectedly people who ain't close with me wished, which actually made me feel so so so good! And of course unknown members of orkut flirts too sent me e-greetings![Ok thats nice...I accept!] The start of 2007 is actually nice.... I hope to see it cont till the end!

New year was awesome! Spending or rather celebrating new year with my ENTIRE family members was gr8 this time! Of my 19yrs, this is the first time I actually in the ACTUAL sense celebrated new year!

I had ma sis's, bava, cutie niece, ma mom dad of course this time! Well well, I actually take up honors for making my sweet lil cutie taaru happy by playing the silliest of the silliest games along with her! I was happy that I made her happy, she was happy 'coz I played with her! So ore family bondings dhan!

When every year passes by, I ask a question to maself whether I have made any resolutions?!? Answer would be no! I don't remember moi making any resolutions these many years. During my childhood I remember teachers telling asking all the students to take a resolution, or rather take up some bad habit of urs and asking them to cut off next year! Resolutions was only that much to me! Just to know what is what and say to myself 'fine shara idhu unnaku othu varathu!'

People like me shouldn't take up such things! I consider it as dumb[Note:- "I"]

People will be like, "sharanya wat resolution this time?"

"Atleast this time cut off your *DASH__*"

And on...! I can hardly even keep a secret... and they expect me to take up such things and expect ME to cut off the 'wateva'?!

But this year atlast I made one. I know definitely I can make it, or rather I do without it! Its nothing but to stop watching scary movies!! This I made after the 'so' wonderful experience with ma college pals! I know very well i can keep up this promise 'coz Iam the won who is 'bowled out' so badly, so obv that I will not watch or rather take risk again! **Periya Kumbudu**

But then //shara// is unpredictable! There is something called 'Curiosity' which literally K I L L S H E R ! So the resolution is not yet //approved// fully! [Remembrance of political issues] So lemme give a +ve note at the end of the year!

Well, back to 2007... .... ...

(Wake me up)
~~Wake me up inside~~
(I can’t wake up)
~~Wake me up inside~~
(Save me)
~~call my name and save me from the dark~~
(Wake me up)
~~bid my blood to run~~
(I can’t wake up)
~~before I come undone~~
(Save me)
~~save me from the nothing I’ve become~~

now that I know what I’m without
~~you can't just leave me~~
breathe into me and make me real
~~bring me to life~~
