I finally saw VTV in a local theater in Bangalore. After several attempts, I watched the film fully(Did you know, first I went to Ajantha Theatre to watch that film and power cut immediately after Hossana song. They reimbursed our tickets and I saw the entire film after a day in lavanya theatre). Guess only people like me will have such stupid experiences like this.
Coming to the point, I saw the film finally and loved Simbu and Trisha! For simbu, I just didn't imagine in my wildest dreams that he could act well. Subtle and extremely minimal expressions unlike his previous films. For Trisha, she looked so beautiful. The clothes she wore inspires me to wear saris! She was super hot, except for the fact that her role in the film was extremely confusing.
The story is simple. Boy meets girl, its love at first sight, and they both go around the city (they even go to my favorite place moonrackers:-) ) , exchange hugs, kisses and finally the girl backs off. Now this is new to tam films. Though an extremely common case today :p
So now what? I liked every part of it. But still, there are few things that went wrong. Number One being the climax. The climax of the film is the best part ever, I mean that's the most gutsy climax ever a director can give. But what's bothering me in that?
There is this scene were Trisha meets Simbu in a bridge after a gap of two years. She sees him and he sees her with her most ugly looking hus-band! Cut to watching Simbu's film. She sits next to him walks out the theatre and parts as friends with a handshake.
I mean a girl who can't even take few steps to talk to him on that day, flies a thousand plus miles to watch his movie? I don't see the logic in this!
Moreover, the line "enga appa strict" has no meaning attached to it apart from repeating it over thousand times! There is no establishing scene as to how strict is her appa. May be Menon should change it to "enga anna romba strict". The bro character in the film was one.
And finally Menon ends with a note saying "You can still be friends with you ex"! Personally if you ask me, you can still be friends provided that both of you are not committed to someone else or vice versa. Even if one of them is married or committed to someone else, its a DISASTER to keep in touch with them. Simbu looked like a complete loser in the last scene, while she happily walks off.
Hmmm, apart from this I loved every other part. Especially the dialogues of the film. They are penned in such a manner that it urges me to hear it from someone who can tell me that. Then there were these typical Menon's like flying to another city to met his love, having a mallu connect, the guy's super emotions for the girl etc. I wonder which guy falls head over heels with a girl like that!

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya? I'm surprised you have so many positive things to say about the movie. Ofcourse it was classy! Ofcourse Simbu has actually restrained a lot of his gimmics and done a good job! But still...To me, the movie was 2.5 hrs of "elegant mokka". 2 hrs of "emotion interpretation"...1 hr of "prediction and logical analysis"...And the climax - "wheres my rope?!" Well,I expected something new...something fresh...!So many movies have come up with the heroine having a decision-making-disability!"Engappa strictu" ! Fine! let him be..She should have known this right from the start..She shouldnt ve gone into the relationship at all...And it was a disaster that she broke off the marriage with a guy..and got married to the same guy in a few months! I felt like asking the guy "are you that desperate? :!!"...And like you've pointed out,the "cliche" scene of a hero meeting XXX in UK - where she doesnt even talk to him...But later on, watches his movie with him - Threat to reality! And Anna character - just to be pummeled by Simbu - very cinematic... The climax was a waste. There was no suspense because they gave a clue way before..When the sister says she actually saw the marriage photos of Trisha and the other guy! Then they took us through all the crap of "how nice it would have been if it had worked out!" and finally they threw the "It didn't work out that way!" - and called it a climax! Gosh! More like "slow poison"...There's just one thing I detested in "paavam" Trisha's character...There is a "yes"...there is a "no"...There's never a "don't know" or "maybe" when it comes to love..You are bound to have confusions..You will be bombarded with SHIT...from all directions..Love lies in how well you face the shit! You can always make things work - if you truly believe..I felt like I wasted 2.5 hrs on watching a female dilly-dallying all through the movie, going against all that I had believed in so far. The movie has however, inspired me to take an sequel...Guess what I'm calling it ..................................!
"VINNAITHAANDI VARAMAAATA!"
@Janu - thank you for the space
@others - subcomments welcome :D
hey..ya! I thought you had interviewed Maddy! You can give Maddy also some importance! :D Mind you! :D just mailing in the pics isn't enough...Tell the world what a sweetheart he is :D
"Love lies in how well you face the shit! You can always make things work - if you truly believe" Oh I love this line sowmie! She could have worked it out! And your planning a sequel for this movie? He dragged this film completely in the second half itself! If at all he is going to take a sequel, 2.5 hrs of sleeping, popcorn + sathyam donut! :D
Btw sowmie darling she didn't marry the same guy. The first one is the hottie who used to travel with us in the bus. The second guy is...oops uncle is a DISASTER she chooses to live life with! :D
Btw I should post about maddy man! such a hottie he is! :)
Oh she dint marry the same guy?! :O !
hmmm! Doesnt make a difference..I still hate the movie :D
good one... i liked the movie.. though the climax was a mokkai.. gautham could have done better.. he got lost in the script... and confused the screenplay!!! but it was reality on the screen... he showed whats happening in reality...so first 2 hours of the movie was nice...
@ prem
Exactly. Menon got lost in the script.. Guess he always gets lost when it comes to the second half of the film. I found all his movies quiet a drag in the latter part except Minnale!
I completely agree with every point of urs... but u forgot to add... the technical aspects of the movie and the musik was out of the world!!!
Cheers!!!
@rain crab
yes yes, the music was mind blowing! Esp Hossana and Omane penne! I love the cinematography too! :)
